Two hundred and ninety years ago, in 1720, the Glaesel family was establishing itself as one of the most prestigious instrument makers in Markneukirchen. They were also into restoration of instruments later on. Many of the Glaesel’s were educated at the Mittenwald School, where they further honed their skills in crafting fine instruments.

Shop adjusting refers to the method of assembling instruments in the shop, while its parts are imported from various parts of the world. This made the instruments a lot cheaper than those that had to be shipped in from Europe. However, he still managed to make sure that the instruments were assembled and finished with the same high quality as those which were actually crafted the traditional way.
Even more impressive is the fact that the Music Educators National Conference asked Glaesel to write a set of standards for instruments that were suitable for students to use. In short, Glaesel set the standards for fine instruments. Later on in the late nineteen seventies, Glaesel’s company was bought by The Selmer Company, who was able to expand the original company yet still maintain the strict standards and excellent quality that Glaesel instruments are known for worldwide. Here are just some of the Glaesel violins that are sure to make every piece you play a memorable one.
The Glaesel Model V130ECH is made from European solid spruce for its top, and maple for its back and sides. The violin has inlaid purfling and double shaded spirit varnish. It also has chromium steel core strings, ebony fitting and four fine tuners. The V130ECH is available in 1/8 to 4/4 sizes. Meanwhile, the Model V131 ECH is similar to the V130; however it is fully crafted in Germany and was assembled in the United States, just the way the original Glaeser Company made them. This particular model is only available in the ½ to 4/4 sizes.
There is also the VI31 Special model, which is professionally shop adjusted in the US, with spirit varnished spruce tops and maple sides and back. It has inlaid purfling, ebony fittings and Thomastik Dominant strings. Its bow is German half-lined Brazilwood. The special model comes with a lightweight half-moon suspension case, with bow holders, string tube and a plush blanket. The entire set is, in a word, exquisite.
The Glaesel Model VIG1 is also made from seasoned spruce for its top, and has flamed maple backs and sides. It has inlaid purfling as well, with a shaded spirit varnish. This hand made violin comes with strings and fittings of your choice, but is only available in the full 4/4 size.
