Nagoya Suzuki Violins

A Japanese Instrument

Innovation that went beyond the usual expectations. That, in a nutshell, describes the story of the Nagoya Suzuki Violin Company.

The art of violin making began in Europe, many centuries ago. These precious instruments were hand made in small artisan workshops by Luthiers. And like all things custom and hand made, the process was expensive and time consuming. The products, although exquisite, were expensive as well.  Check out these violins on Ebay right now!

But Masakichi Suzuki changed all that. He was the son of a shamisen maker, a Japanese string instrument. He lived in an age where Japan was becoming more westernized, and wanted to produce Western string instruments, which in this case was the violin.

Because Suzuki was all the way in Nagoya, Japan, he did not know a single thing about making violins. All he had was a prototype, a violin which he borrowed from a friend, and his ingenuity. He was able to successfully reproduce the violin, and went on to do so at a large scale. The Suzuki violins were high in quality, just like the traditional hand made instruments of European origin. So good were the Suzuki violins that students and professionals alike started using his violins all over the world.

All Nagoya Suzuki violins are made from high quality wood that is beautifully grained and lacquered. This not only gives the violins a great aesthetic value, but it also ensures that the violins produce a beautiful and solid sound.

Not only are Nagoya Suzuki violins popular for their high quality, but also the method of music education that their company established. Shinichi Suzuki, Masakichi’s son, created the Suzuki Method of learning how to play musical instruments. The Suzuki Method is known all over the world, and many Suzuki taught students have gone on to become world class violinists.

Needless to say, violins that are specifically made for students are close to the Nagoya Suzuki Violin Company. They continue to make high quality violins that produce beautiful sound, and yet still manage to make them reasonably priced or affordable enough for students. Truly, educational violins are their expertise. But Nagoya Suzuki Violins also make excellent professional or concert violins, as well as violins for the more intermediate players.

One of the more popular Nagoya Suzuki violins is the NS-20. This violin outfit features a beautiful instrument with a spruce top and a carved maple back, neck and sides. It has inlaid purfling and a scroll that is fully carved. The pegs are ebony, as is the fingerboard. It has a Wittner tailpiece with a four string adjuster. This violin has Dogal strings. The bow that comes with this outfit is made by Suzuki as well. And of course, this outfit would not be complete without a Suzuki violin carrying case.

The Suzuki NS-20 comes in all sizes, from 1/8 to 4/4. It is reasonably priced as well, and is a very worthy investment. This particular violin is made in China but finished in Japan. Nevertheless, it is made under the strict standards that the Nagoya Suzuki Violin Company is known for. If you are looking for a starter violin, this is it.
