Violin Lessons
It is always exciting to take up a new hobby or discovering a new passion. A lot of people have taken to playing the violin because of the beautiful sound it creates and the challenge that playing it poses. If you are one of these people, the first thing you will probably do before even purchasing your own violin would be to seek out an instructor who will give you violin lessons.
Violin lessons are being offered by a lot of music schools. But the best option would be to learn from a reputable teacher who is known in the industry. This may be a bit pricey however because these teachers usually teach child prodigies or future virtuosos. But if you are serious about learning, then it is really a good idea to invest in getting lessons from a good teacher right from the start. Look for a teacher who will inspire you to bring out the best in yourself.
It is also more advisable to get one on one lessons with your music instructor. However, some people are more comfortable learning in a group setting. So try out both methods and see which one you are comfortable with. You can also request for a free trial of each style, or sit-in in these classes, before you decide and commit to paying for the entire course.
Most people who sign up for violin lessons think that since they are just starting out, they should not buy expensive violins yet. So they end up purchasing cheap violins that are not well made. The sound quality of these violins is more often than not horrible. To make matters worse, most people have to spend so much in order to make these cheap violins sound okay by changing the strings, having the violin repaired, and so on.
That is why it is highly advisable that from the get-go, those who take violin lessons purchase high quality student instruments. These student instruments are made by reputable violin makers who alter some parts of the violin or the violin making process so as to make them more affordable and student friendly. But they have the look, feel and sound of the higher end violins.
It is important to get your foundation right especially when you are starting out with taking violin lessons. You have to develop an ear for what sounds right and what the sound of proper playing should be. Then you can see how well you progress with how you sound on the violin. But if you practice with a cheap model, it will only discourage you from wanting to improve in your skill level because you will not be able to produce good sound quality at all with these low end violins.
Most teachers would also recommend that you record your own practice sessions so that you can hear how you are progressing as the months go by. And of course, it goes without saying, that anyone taking music lessons must practice everyday. Otherwise, these violin lessons will go to waste.
