Musicians from all over would drop by his shop because they knew that he could be trusted with the servicing and appraisal of their Stradivarius, Amati or Guarneri violins. By the time his son Fred Lewis joined the family business, William Lewis & Son, as they were later called, began selling their own instruments.
William Lewis & Son violins may be American made, but they have the same marks of quality that traditional European violins are known for. Ever since the company was established, they put an emphasis on making sure that only the right materials were used for their violins and that extensive attention to detail was observed in every part of the production process.
William Lewis & Son knows this because they worked with the best violins, restoring them to their original glory when they were out of tune or needed repairs. It is from this experience that they were able to make even better violins than the ones that they worked with.
This company knows that a violin is made from eighty or so separate parts that will only weigh a total of one pound. However, this light product must be able to withstand seventy pounds of string tension. This is guaranteed with every William Lewis & Son violin, which is hand adjusted by their team of skilled craftsmen in a patented process they “Stradjustment”. They make sure that the violins conform to the standards of the Music Educators National Conference or the MENC.
If you will take a look at the William Lewis & Son Platinum Series WL8, it will take your breath away. It is beautiful, elegant and looks well made. Its materials consist of seasoned spruce for its top, and flamed maple for the sides and back. The Platinum Series WL8 has an antiqued spirit varnish, giving it an old world look and feel. All these materials are put together in Germany by skilled craftsmen, who work on each violin by hand.
The William Lewis & Son Platinum Series WL8 can be customized to the customer’s desired strings and fittings, making the sound even more unique. This model is definitely a great investment and the perfect violin for concerts and orchestras. It is available in the full 4/4 size only.
Meanwhile, the William Lewis & Son Platinum Series WL9 is also an excellent violin, with its spruce top and maple back and sides. It also has the same antiqued spirit varnish as the WL8, and can be customized to your own preferred strings and fittings.
Apart from these wonderful professional violins, William Lewis & Son also has an extensive variety of violins that are specifically for students of all ages and sizes. They know that children require different sizes of violins, and that this can be expensive for parents. That is why they also provide instruments for various budgets.
