Even Yamaha’s most affordable violin models are packed with features that are only found in expensive European made violins. This makes it the perfect brand for students because it is affordable, but at the same time, it will help them develop an ear for the correct sound that their playing should produce. Touted as “the perfect start, the Yamaha AV5 Violin series, which includes the AV5-12SK, AV5-34SK and AV5-44SK, examples of just that.
In fact, the Yamaha AV5 Violin series is based on Guarneri del Gesu’s original designs for the V30 and V60 Yamaha violins. The violins are constructed out of carved Spruce tops, Maple backs and sides, Ebony fingerboards, inlaid purfling, oil varnish with Rosewood tuning pegs and Wittner tailpieces with four fine tuners. The strings are by D’Addario Prelude, and the rosin by D’Addario Piranito. These violins also come with a horsehair bow. These violins are set up and finished in the Guarneri House by the most skilled luthiers.
All the Yamaha violins come with a five year warranty that covers any defects in the workmanship of the instrument, bow and case. The violins are made to comply with MENC standards, and they have even exceeded them. The AV5 Series violins come in the full 4/4 size, as well as the 3/4, ½, ¼, 1/8, 1/10 and 1/16 sizes. The AV5 Violin outfits come with a dart-shaped ABS plastic case that features interior pockets for shoulder rests, and has a shoulder strap for easy transporting and carrying.
But despite these outstanding features, Yamaha still made sure that they produced these violins in various sizes so that they could be used by young and old students alike. They were also made more cost friendly but they were careful never to scrimp on important materials that would affect the sound quality of the violins. This is because the AV5 Series was actually a product of the contributions of violin teachers, dealers and students from all over the world, on how to improve the student violins of Yamaha.
Among the other notable student violins by Yamaha are the AV7 series which is available in ¼ and 1/8 sizes, as well as the full 4/4 size.
Meanwhile, for more intermediate players, there are the AV10 SG and the AV20 SG models. These violins feature even more upgraded features than those found in the AV5. These violins are the perfect step-up violins for those wishing to hone their skills or increase their potentials.
For those who are into electric violins, Yamaha has the AV7-44SGE and the AV10-44SGE models which are actually Electro-Acoustic violins. This means that they can be played as both acoustic and electronic violins, depending on your mood and preference for the moment. These electric violins are also crafted by the Guarneri House luthiers, to ensure that they have exceptional quality and performance just like the traditional violins.
